Ports of Call
MS Pacific Dream

Lisbon, Portugal
Belém quarter, the monumental section of Lisbon is our first target; including photo stops at the Tower of Belem and Jerónimos Monastery. View from exterior the impressive Manueline style Monastery of Jerónimos, monuments that represent the "Golden Age" of the Portuguese Discoveries, back in the 15th century. Proceed walking to the Maritime Museum for inside visit. The Maritime Museum, one of the most important in Europe, evokes the glory that characterized Portugal's domination of the high seas. Appropriately, it's installed in the west wing of the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. These royal galleys re-create an age of opulence that never shied away from excess. The museum contains models of 15th- to 19th-century sailing ships, 20th-century warships, merchant marine vessels, fishing boats, river craft. Scenic drive from Belém to Alfama, passing by Praça do Comércio. Walking in Alfama, the oldest, most fascinating and characteristic district of the city. Recently it has gone through a facelift without loosing its original charm and the romantic view over the city and Rio Tejo. Drive to ship.

Gibraltar, Gibraltar
On this Tour we shall cover the chief sights and still leave time for shopping in Main Street, the hub of this Duty Free Port. From the quayside we shall initially drive towards the runway of the airfield to reach the British/Spanish Frontier. The tour then proceeds towards the southernmost point of Gibraltar, Europa Point and the sight of the only Trinity Lighthouse outside Great Britain. Here you alight from your transport to take some photographs of the panoramic views of the busiest shipping lane in the world, the mingling of the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean and two Continents. The tour then proceeds to the upper Rock area and to St. Michael's Cave where one can appreciate a mass of strangely shaped stalagmites and stalactites. The strains of classical music drift through this enormous Gothic style cavern. The Rock Apes spring to mind at the mention of the Rock of Gibraltar and there is where our next stop will take us. King Charles "V" Wall seems to be a usual habitat of the Apes, which are indeed a breed of tailless monkeys (Macaca Sylvanus), which roam free on the rocky slopes. They are endearing creatures with a penchant for handbags to say nothing of cameras and hats.  Please note they are animals and are not to be touched however friendly they may seem. On continuing the tour we travel via the upper Rock area to exit the Nature Reserve passing by the Moorish Castle and the tower of Homage that still bears the scars of Battle. Finally we enter the upper Town area. We will drive down the narrow winding roads to exit at the Main Street where we will enjoy free time to shop or return to the ship.

Malaga, Spain
Departing from the quayside by coach we will lead to the city of Granada passing by beautiful places of Andalucía. On our arrival at Granada we will be impressed by the most outstanding symbol of Moorish heritage in Spain, The Alhambra Palace. The Alhambra was a Palace, a fortress and home of the Nasrid Sultans and since the beginning of the XIII century, the smallest and oldest buildings became gradually a huge walled site which clearly was intended to be a Palace and a Court. The Alhambra was not a static building but rather the result of an evolution of successive reforms and extensions. We will visit the Alqala Hamra "The Red Castle" where we will visit: The Nazari Palaces, Serallo the official residence of the Sultan and the Harem which surrounds the famous "Patio de los Leones" with water sources that flow water through the mouth of 12 lions and many other wonderful sites within the fortress.

Casablance, Morocco
Chosen to be the Capital of the Almohad Empire in the 12th century, then of present-day Morocco: that city is Rabat, the Royal city. Rabat is a kaleidoscope of colourful patios and exuberant gardens: the delightful Garden of the Oudayas and the romantic gardens of the Chellah Necropolis. Set like a jewel amid magnificent surroundings, Rabat is endowed with long beaches of golden sand, the noble Mamora cork oak forest and the Royal Golf Dar Essalam, one of the most beautiful courses in the world. We will visit the Hassan Tower with its 44 metres (140 feet) high; it was originally intended to attain 80 metres (260 feet). Majestic but never finished, the tower was the brainchild of sultan Yacoub E l Mansour whose ambition was to build the biggest mosque in the Muslim world. Two hundred columns mark out where it was to stand, reflecting the glory of the Almohad Empire which, in the 12 century, stretched as far as Tunisia and Moorish Spain. Our next stop will be the Mohamed V Mausoleum. No less than 400 craftsmen were employed in the building of this splendid edifice. The exterior comprises a magnificent white marble pavilion surmounted by a roof of green tiles. Inside, the exquisitely crafted burial chamber contains the white onyx tomb, which stands on a slab of mirror. Afterwards, will visit The Kasbah of the Oudayas. It is named after the Oudaya tribe who were send to Rabat by Sultan Moulay Ismail to defend the city against the invincible Andalusian pirates and hornacheros. It also witnessed the exploits of Yacoub El Mansour and Abd El Moumen who, in around 1150 built Jamaa El Atiq, the oldest mosque in Rabat. The Chellah Necropolis was built in the 14 th century by the Merinides, and stands on the site of the Roman city of Sala. Here, nature runs riot and the stones speak volumes. Rising up out of the bushes, a minaret with brightly coloured tile mosaics, stands guard over this magic spot. Allow yourself to be bewitched by the peaceful calm of the Chellah Necropolis.

Agadir, Morocco
Departing form the port we will go up the ruins of the old Kasbah that overlooks the ocean from a height of 236 metres. After its reconstruction, Agadir has a remarkable architectural uniformity. The city centre is crossed by streets filled of restaurants, shops and crafts centres which form the heart of the city. The new City Hall and The Court are benchmarks of the modern area. We will attend the folkloric show "Fantasy" while they serve us Mint tea and Moroccan typical pastries. We will lead to the bazaar to know their habits.

Lanzarote, Spain
Travelling northward you will visit Haria, with its gorgeous view of the valley of 1000 palms, a steep headland on the northern part of the island offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the sea and the nearby Islands. Then, we will drive to Mirador del Rio, a spectacular spot where we will have a magnificent panoramic view and if the weather permits, we can see the island La Graciosa. You will visit Jameos del Agua cave, also the result of volcanic activity and decorated by the famous artist César Manrique. Its salt water Lagoon is home to the blind little crabs which are unique in the world. On the return journey we will discover some interesting facts about the cultivation of the Woodloose in the Villages of Mala and Guatiza.

This trip leads us into the National Park of Timanfaya with the famous Fire Mountains. Timanfaya is one of the 13 National Parks in Spain. The lack of wildlife creates an apparent silence that is almost palpable and which makes the advent of a volcanic eruption difficult to imagine; but the truth is that the land is still bubbling beneath the surface and you will be amazed at the craters and experiments shown, of the still active volcanoes.

The visitors will have the chance to take part on the Volcano Tour where they will be impressed by the rustic nature as well as by the recorded explanations we will hear along the Tour, of the priest of Yaiza who lived an eruption that affected great part of the south of the island. Here you will take a short and funny Camel ride. The way back to the Vessel will lead us trough the beautiful Vineyards of La Geria, where of course you can try the local Wine.

This Wine producing area is a few miles inland; the wall of volcanic rock divide the apparently barren field, but, within these walls, the vile flourish under a layer of Picón (porous lava granules which absorb the dew at night and provide them constant moisture to the plants.)
